2nd annual Westbeach Chinese Downhill

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

On Feb. 24th 2009, the 2nd annual Westbeach Chinese Downhill went down, this year attendance was almost double from last year. You would think almost too many people considering there was some heavy carnage and a bit of trampling at the top but everyone in attendance was in good spirits and there was only a bit of blood shed.

My dawg Josh Lapovsky took home the win, bringing home $500 cash, a Westbeach Texas micky and bragging rights of Creekside king for a year.

WSA Micro Architect Skatepark project

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

It seems like summer is rolling in with the lack of snow. Jim Barnum from Spectrum Sk8park Creations has moved up to Whistler and Luna got us all (WSA) together to have a meeting with the Muni to see what the WSA can come up with next. So we passed a bunch of ideas around and are working on an idea to construct a few micro architect mini parks all over Whistler and we need input to get the project rolling.

Check out www.whistlerskate.org for full details.

Westbeach Heritage Project

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Did you know that Westbeach is turning thirty years old? Imagine that, making snowboard outerwear for 30 years, well actually thats not totally true since they started in Calgary making surf shorts.

As a major part of “The Heritage Project” Westbeach will be releasing a photo book by Dano Pendygrasse. It will summarize the highs and lows of Canadian Snowboarding through the eyes of Westbeach. From the humble beginnings of the backyard shred and resort banned snowboarding, through its’ boom in the 90′ s that saw Canadian riders and companies take world stage, to where we are at today, there is quite a story to be told.

Along with the book there will be a Heritage blog on the Westbeach site which has recently kicked off which will have weekly updates with classic snowboard memorabilia.

On top of the Book and Blog I am super stoked to be producing a number of short web videos which will be released over the next 9 or so months.

Westbeach/Kevin Young VHS Archive

I just started to look at some of the archives Westbeach has, and holy shit what a treat it is to see some of this stuff.

Check it out and learn a little about roots of Canadian Snowboarding.

Phil Tifo’s website online

Monday, February 16th, 2009

It has been awhile since I have been working with Phil Tifo to get his new website off the ground. Phil is a well rounded sports photographer who hails from Gatineau Quebec and currently resides in Squamish BC. Phil shoots Kayaking and Rock climbing in the summer. In the winter he works with some badass shredders with a focus on Quebecois (Martin Gallant, Benji Ritchie, Etienne Gilbert, Annie Boulanger, David Melancon, Gaetan Chanut…). Take a peak at the site to see some of his pics.

Its been a fun little project working to get his site up and going and wanted to spread the word.

So check it out @ www.tifophotographik.com

Oh, and If you are interested in purchasing one of his images for print you can easily do so by clicking on the “Buy Print” option on the image.
